Climate change in Antarctica.
Climate change is the result of greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide, building up in our atmosphere, causing heat to be trapped. This is largely due to observed increases in human produced carbon pollution. The heat in the climate system has other impacts on our earth, such as affecting atmospheric and ocean circulation, which influences rainfall and wind
patterns.
Climate change affects Antarctica firstly by the temperature rising, it's causing the ice to melt, making the sea levels much higher. Scientist predicts that there will be more snowfall then ice falling in the next 50 years. Central and southern parts of Antarctica have increased temperature by 3 degrees C.
Climate change impacts the species of Antarctica, penguins are one of many animals getting hit by climate change bad. Where they're supposed to live is now slowly melting, causing around a 50% decline in some breeds. Sea ice is vital feeding ground for krill, and now since global warming, the number of krill has dropped 80% since 1970. Therefore whales and penguins that feed on krill now aren't finding krill as easily as they should, causing them to slowly become extinct.
The potential impact of ice melting on the rest of the world is a big issue. When our ice melts it causes sea level to raise, and many countries on our earth are just on sea level, so when Antarctica (who accounts for most of the world's oceans) water rises it's a high risk that it will flood those countries.
A recommendation in response to climate change would be for everyone to get a general understanding of what climate change is, and that was, from there, everyone will be able to know what to do and how to prevent it.
